Getting ready for the final 7 Night of the Proms shows. Brings back Black Symphony memories!

Sharon den Adel is the voice and face of the popular Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation. She scored hits with her band as “Ice Queen”, “Mother Earth”, “Stand my Ground”, “Angels”, “What Have You Done” and “Forgiven”

Within Temptation takes a sabbatical this year to work on a new album. This period provides Sharon den Adel the opportunity to stand on the stage of Night of the Proms in Belgium and The Netherlands

We have done more than 250 shows in 40 countries the past 2 years. It was intense but wonderful. With all that touring we cannot work on new material and that is why we focus on that now. We will also finally be on holiday, because we have not been in recent years

Sharon lent her voice to several songs by other artists, such as the Dutch punk band the Heideroosjes She also wrote the hit In and Out of Love with DJ Armin van Buuren
In recent years Within Temptation received several gold and platinum records for albums like The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything
Last year she and her band did an exclusive theater tour in the Netherlands and Belgium. From that tour, The acoustic live album An Acoustic Night At The Theater appeared last month.
Also last year’s Within Temptation and the Metropole Orchestra did Black Symphony in Ahoy.

The music of Within Temptation is a right up the street from Il Novecento [orchestra] and Fine Fleur [choir]

First I want to congratulate you personally on the birth of your son Aiden Robin Westerhold. I would like to know how are you going home, especially Eva Luna, she is somewhat jealous of her little brother because it is no longer the sole number 1?
No, thank you Eva Luna was not a little bit jealous of her brother, because we had them involved from the outset, she was very happy for him. She tries to help me something, but with 2 children in the household, the job a bit more serious

Sharon, because your second pregnancy, have you since the end of 2008, a long Pause inserted. Have you in between during this time continued for the band or you have pushed everything aside to you only concentrate on your pregnancy?
No, I have incidentally also songs for Within Temptation written, and also worked with other artists. That makes me not only fun, but I’m learning something here too often by others. It’s nice to take occasional music with other people , because it created a change of song writing with my band is

One result of this Chains appear is the new single “Utopia”, the end of October is. When this song come about?
That was during my pregnancy when I was with talking to a friend, who asked me if I had time and with the I then composed a little. At first I wanted to also Just killing time and we have simply written and drafted I did not even know whether and if so, what the music later used. It was not at all clear whether it is a song for Within Temptation is, or for another artist. While the piece will was at the origin, was already emerging that it is not really WT would fit – simply because the original version too was happy and elated. Robert [Westerholt, Sharon's boyfriend and guitarist of the band - MR] then said that we are this great song always use in any way and should hit the acoustic album before. This was certainly clear that it revolutionize still some had – after all, is “Utopia” but a very nice piece off our actual terrain. At least he was already time acoustic, which he for a normal album, although no question came, but at least for the album to the theater tour. So we have the Basic rhythm and slows down considerably to the main melody a lot melancholy set. “Utopia” started off quite small and was thereby increasing with time, also by elements of the Orchestra rather pompous and hence WT-compatible. Nevertheless, it is clear that this song is pretty unusual for us, and not everyone like it is. It’s just primarily a bonus for the fans

Within Temptation is known as a gothic band. And while they are still not agreeing to that, the image fits well in this Halloween week. We checked the content of horror in singer Sharon

Do you have something with Halloween?
That is really American, though it increasingly in the Netherlands, isn’t it? I find it very nice, it has something cozy. In our street children also come along with lanterns. Screaming “trick or treat” and then retrieve candy of course

Well, nice. Halloween has to be scary, don’t you think? Have you been to a Halloween party?
No, but we do have once stood on a Halloween show in Germany. Then there were skulls and pumpkins on the keyboards and between the drums. Before me there was a half skeleton with a gravestone above. But we are no gothics yet, haha
